Protocol for use of Turner C3 Fluorometer

Charge battery for six hours before deployment using included battery charger. 
Install communication drivers and C-soft before connecting the instrumetn to a computer. 
Use C-soft to get calibration information and to designate a sampling time and sampling rate. 
Calculate battery life at http://www.turnerdesigns.com/calc/batterylife.php 
If the C3 will be deployed on a profiling package, the sensor wipers are not required for deployment. 
Copper plating on the sensor face is present to guard against biofouling. 

After you have set the C3 for a given sampling time and sampling rate, C-soft will automatically close
Disconnect the instrument from the computer and attach the C3 to your profiling package. 
The face of the sensor should not be obstructed by neighboring instruments and should be protected

After recovery, use C-soft software to download the data stored 
The instrument will have sampled continuously throughout the deployment
Use the pressure sensor on the C3 to match the C3 data with other profiling instruments
The pressure sensor can be zeroed using C-soft, otherwise it will read in total decibars

Given the effects of non-photochemical quenching and photoadaptation within phytoplankton groups, 
chlorophyll fluorescence must be combined with extracted chlorophyll values from simultaneous discrete water samples.

Similarly, the composition of CDOM is highly variable and will affect the relationship between fluorescence and concentration.
