Basically, the complaint was that chlorophyll fluorescence doesn't get you very far with respect to measuring relevant terms in the vertical carbon balance of the upper ocean. I'm sure you've heard this all before and maybe you've even addressed it.... FYI, both the Chileans and the Japanese have deployed floats with WetLabs optics sensors on them. One of the Japanese floats was recovered and was found to have lots of clams growing on the float. These floats profiled every other day so they spent a relatively larger fraction of the time near the surface. -dds
