SALES / APPLICATION ENGINEER

Brief Task Description

A Sales/Application Engineer plays a vital role in creating and maintaining the company’s positive image by ensuring customers needs are met with optimum solutions. This person must be able to discuss measurement objectives and the operational conditions likely to affect them, recommend instruments, and clearly communicate technical information. The Sales/Application Engineer works with customers, end users, sales representatives, system integrators, resellers, and OEMs.

This person reports directly to the Sales Manager. A Sales/Application Engineer is accountable for the following:

  • Respond to customer and international representative inquiries via phone and email to provide applications assistance, product information, price quotes and enter sales orders.
  • Confer with existing and prospective customers, assess customer need, and sell scientific instruments based on the technical features that ensure highest data quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain and develop existing and new customers through appropriate proposals and sales methods, and relevant internal liaison, to optimize quality of service, business growth, and customer satisfaction.
  • Prioritize personal sales activities and customer/prospect contact towards achieving agreed business aims. Manage personal time and productivity to integrate personal sales efforts and other organized marketing activities.
  • Develop expert knowledge of company products, their operation, the principles behind the determination of salinity and fundamental measurements involved through on the job training and experience, augmented by tutoring and self-study.
  • Learn and apply sales and service policies and procedures, become familiar with the company’s operations and engineering functions and communicate, liaise, and negotiate internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships.
  • Moderate domestic and international travel for sales activity at scientific conferences, trade shows, and training support for customer and sale representatives.
  • Work directly with R&D, production, management, shipping and customers to ensure on-time product delivery
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned

Qualification Requirements

The candidate must posses the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience selling technically sophisticated product is required.
  • Bachelors in physical science, and/or engineering preferred, relative experience and knowledge may qualify.
  • Experience selling scientific instrumentation to an international customer base is desired.
  • English Language – Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and business documents such as purchase orders, contracts, and proposals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to effectively present information to customers and company management. Competent writer of business letters, quotations and proposals.
  • Ability to understand mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, and quadratic equations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality and business success.
  • Mature credible, and comfortable in dealing with scientist, engineers, and company executives.
  • Data and fact-based problem solving skills.

  • Physical requirements included: bend, sit, stand, kneel, crawl, turn/twist, and reach.
  • Ability to see and hear well (either naturally or with correction) and speak clearly.
  • Coordinate the movement of your eyes, hands or fingers.
  • Frequent computer screen and keyboard use.
  • Frequently lift, carry or pull up to fifteen (15) pounds and/or occasionally lift, push or pull up to thirty (30) pounds.

 

SENIOR PHYSICAL OCEANOGRAPHER / INSTRUMENTATION SCIENTIST

Brief Task Description

This is a new position for a PhD level candidate with broad knowledge of oceanographic instrumentation, instrument development and experimental oceanographic research. This position will work at the highest levels of the company to help guide the company as it develops, designs, and markets existing and future products.

This person reports directly to the President. This Senior Physical Oceanographer Position is accountable for the following:

  • Act as a company/customer liaison for product design and development in coordination with the sales and marketing team.
  • Serve as a liaison to the scientific community in coordination with other oceanographers and customer support staff within the company.
  • Work with the company’s R&D staff to ensure that instrument design is optimized for the highest quality data possible.
  • Manage and direct instrument design projects from conception to final product.
  • Conduct research on instrumentation and new product design. This research will be company funded or funded through grants and contracts from various agencies.
  • Consult with and help the Ocean Measurement Group forecast and manage new product direction and product development.

Qualification Requirements

The candidate must posses the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • PhD in Physical Oceanography, physics, or related field.
  • Published research related to acquiring and analyzing physical measurements in the water environment.
  • Broad knowledge of instrument design with the ability to visualize a design starting from first principles and working through to a finished instrument. Including:
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and refine oceanographic instrumentation.
  • Extensive knowledge of the physics and operational characteristics of sensor elements.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design issues as related to underwater oceanographic sensors.
  • Working understanding of analog and digital electronics.
  • The ability to direct a team of engineers and scientists throughout the design effort.
