Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

MSDS sheets for many products used with Sea-Bird equipment are available.

Product Notes
Anti-Foulant Devices:
AF24173 Anti-Foulant Device - PN 801542
and
AF24173 Anti-Foulant Device - PN 801347
Anti-foulant devices are used with Sea-Bird conductivity cells intended for moorings or other long-duration applications:
  • PN 801542 began shipping with SBE 41/41CP Argo CTDs on January 10, 2005, and with all other applicable CTDs during 2006.
  • PN 801347 shipped with all applicable instruments prior to January 10, 2005, and continued to ship with instruments other then SBE 41/41CP Argo CTDs through 2005 and part of 2006.
Sensor Solutions:
Triton X-100 Octyl Phenol Ethoxylate, for cleaning conductivity cells (see Application Note 2D) and SBE 43 Dissolved Oxygen Sensors (see Application Note 64).
DC-200 Oil for pressure port refill.
Potassium Chloride and Silver Chloride Electrolyte solution for SBE 43 Dissolved Oxygen Sensor.
pH Buffer Solutions: pH 4, pH 7, pH 10 For SBE 18 and 27. See Application Note 18-2.
Desiccant (see Application Note 71):
Sorb-It Desiccant For placement inside electronics housings to absorb moisture.
Desi-Pak Desiccant For placement inside electronics housings to absorb moisture.
Hardware Installation Materials (see Module 17 in Training handouts for examples of use):
Super-O-Lube For lubricating O-rings and mating surfaces.
Blue Moly Prevents corrosion and binding of hardware in aluminum and titanium housings
DC-4 Use to fill blind end of screw holes in aluminum and plastic housings -- prevents seawater from filling the space and causing hardware and housing corrosion, and prevents growth of salt crystals that can cause stuck hardware
Loctite 242 Thread locker, use when replacing a bulkhead connector.
Batteries:
Duracell Alkaline Battery Duracell alkaline D cell batteries are the standard power supply for the SBE 16, 16plus, 16plus-IM, 16plus V2, 16plus-IM V2, 19, 19plus, 19plus V2, 25, 26, 26plus, 53, 54, 55, and AFM. Alkaline D cells can also be used in the 17plus V2 (NiMH battery pack is standard).

A Duracell alkaline 9V battery is an optional power supply for the SBE 39 (Ultralife Lithium Battery is standard)
Panasonic Lithium Battery BR-2/3A
**
BR-2/3A is used as back-up in instruments that have a lithium battery to back-up buffer and real-time clock in event of main battery failure or exhaustion:

Until July 2008, Sea-Bird custom-built a battery pack comprised of six parallel 9-volt batteries; each 9-volt battery contained three BR-2/3A. This battery pack was used with MicroCATs (SBE 37-IM, 37-IMP, 37-SM, and 37-SMP) and SBE 44. See MicroCAT or SBE 44 manual for shipping precautions for battery pack.

SBE 43 uses two BR-2/3A to maintain continuous polarization.
Panasonic Lithium Battery CR ** On SBE 43 PCB.
Ultralife Lithium Battery 9 Volt ** Power supply for SBE 39 (all serial numbers) and 39-IM (serial numbers 3089 through 3100).
Saft AA Lithium Battery 3.6 Volt ** Two of these batteries are used for power supply for 39-IM (serial numbers greater than 3100). See SBE 39-IM manual for shipping precautions for batteries.

As of July 2008, twelve of these batteries are used for power supply for MicroCATs (SBE 37-IM, 37-IMP, 37-SM, and 37-SMP) and SBE 44. See MicroCAT or SBE 44 manual for shipping precautions for battery pack. Details on battery pack are also provided in Application Note 89.
Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) Battery Ni-Cad battery pack is optional equipment for SBE 19, 19plus, 19plus V2, and 25.
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) Battery ** NiMH battery pack is standard equipment for SBE 17plus V2; optional equipment for SBE 19, 19plus, 19plus V2, and 25.
