Production Manager        Assembler

PRODUCTION MANAGER

The Production Manager reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and hands-on problem solving while driving process improvements, managing personnel, and achieving both short-term and long-term objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the departments responsible for instrument manufacture (Electronic Assembly and Test, Production).
  • Manage and mentor Supervisors, Leads, and Associates, including setting department-level goals and conducting regular performance reviews.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective means of communicating key performance indicators.
  • Actively engage in problem solving and troubleshooting of daily issues in the Electronic Assembly & Test and Production Departments (including our Autonomous Float product line).
  • Drive process improvements to achieve goals for safety, quality, delivery (to both internal and external customers), inventory, and productivity.
  • Manage labor availability to complete work loads, and manage cross-training to increase labor flexibility.
  • Identify and recommend improvement projects.
  • Participate in and facilitate kaizen or improvement project teams, including benchmarking when necessary.
  • Interface with other Managers, particularly those managing downstream departments, to achieve common goals using shared resources.
  • Participate in Strategic Policy Deployment.
  • Participate in Manufacturing Design and/or Readiness reviews.

EDUCATION, BACKGROUND, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (physical science, engineering, etc.) preferred, or a business-related field.
  • Knowledge of quality principles and tools (problem analysis, statistical tools, experimental design, graphing tools, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • 2-4 years of experience directly supervising non-exempt staff preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, with an emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Electro-mechanical skills and/or familiarity with oceanographic equipment a plus.

ASSEMBLER

This position is responsible for manufacturing various oceanographic instruments under the direction of the Operations Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assemble electro-mechanical instruments by following manufacturing guidelines and standard processes
  • Perform pre-assembly quality check on all components
  • Schedule and prioritize workload. 
  • Track productivity and other production metrics.
  • Solder to IPC610 standards.
  • Properly strip and crimp wires.
  • Construct cables, per drawings.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
  • Cross train and back fill in other areas within manufacturing
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION, BACKGROUND, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • HS Diploma, or equivalent, required.
  • Electronic, Technical, Vocational Education or 1-2+ years of directly relevant experience.
  • Ability to read schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to operate various hand tools.
  • Excellent soldering skills.
  • Possess a high level of mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively interact with coworkers, customers, technicians, and other office staff.
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a team .
  • Work an eight (8) hour shift and overtime when required to meet deadlines.
  • History of good employment attendance and punctuality.
