The SBE 14 provides a visual display of CTD depth, pressure, or altitude, as well as a pressure / altimeter / bottom contact alarm. The SBE 14 is housed in a rugged, spray-proof package suitable for mounting at the winch operator's position, and provides an easy-to-read display. It is compatible with a number of Sea-Bird profiling CTDs.
Sea-Bird's inductive modem uses a mooring cable as the communication link, permitting the underwater instrument(s) to be easily positioned at any depth without the use of cable connectors. See the following for technical details and a schematic of an inductive modem system:
The system is run by an Inductive Modem Module (IMM) or Surface Inductive Modem (SIM). Sea-Bird instruments that are compatible with this system include: SBE 16plus-IM V2 SeaCAT C-T (P optional) Recorder, 37-IM and 37-IMP MicroCAT C-T (optional P) Recorders, 37-IMP-IDO MicroCAT C-T-DO (optional P Recorder), 37-IMP-ODO MicroCAT C-T-DO (optional P Recorder), 39-IM Temperature Recorder, 44 Underwater Inductive Modem, and Underwater Inductive Modem Module (UIMM).
