Part # Description Notes
36 CTD DECK UNIT - 115/230 VAC accessory for SBE 19/19plus/19plus V2 or SBE 25 CTD. Provides surface power & two-way communication via single-conductor armored cables up to 10,000 m long. Includes NMEA 0183 GPS interface, AC power cord, sea cable connector, RS-232 serial cable, PDIM test cable, NMEA interface test cable, SEASOFT software, & complete documentation. Requires use of Power/Data Interface Module (PDIM). Order 90227 or 90473 below or see also, SBE 19plus V2 or 25 options list. SBE 36 CTD Deck Unit & PDIM provide surface power & real-time data acquisition & control for SBE 19, 19plus, 19plus V2, 25, or 49 CTD, or SBE 50 Pressure Sensor, allowing deployment with 10,000 m long single-conductor sea cables. SBE 36 is installed on ship, while PDIM is mounted on or near CTD.

Notes:

  • Optional auxiliary sensors on CTDs not shown.
  • Computer, slip-ring-equipped winch, conductive cable, & NMEA 0183 navigation device not supplied by Sea-Bird.
  • Seasave version 7.19 or later also supports acquisition of data from a NMEA device connected directly to computer (instead of SBE 36 deck unit) for all instruments shown except SBE 50.
  • If SBE 36/PDIM used with SBE 49 CTD, Seasave does not allow acquisition of Surface PAR data.
  • If SBE 36/PDIM used with SBE 50, Seasave cannot be used to acquire real-time data. Data can be viewed in Seaterm terminal program.

SBE 36 Options
36-1 A/D voltage input channel for surface PAR sensor (QSR/QCR-2200) (PAR sensor & cable not included) PAR data is appended to CTD data stream in SBE 36, & passed to computer for storage &/or display with CTD data. SBE 36 supplies 12 volts to power sensor. See Third Party portion of price list to order surface PAR sensor; see SBE 36 Accessories & Spares below to order cable. Note that PAR data cannot be appended to CTD data stream if using SBE 49 CTD.
90227 Underwater Power & Data Interface Module, with standard connectors, used w/ SBE 36/33 & CTD, 6800 m (does not include CTD interface cable or mounting hardware) PDIM is required to interface SBE 36 Deck Unit with CTD. PDIM housing is anodized aluminum, & is rated to 6800 m. PDIM order includes sea cable extension cable & pigtail cable, dummy plugs, & jackscrew kit. To order PDIM mount kit & CTD interface cable, see SBE 36 Accessories & Spares below.

Note: PDIM can also be used with SBE 33 Carousel Deck Unit (when used without an SBE 32 Carousel Water Sampler), to provide same functionality as when used with SBE 36 Deck Unit.

PDIM connector type (standard or wet-pluggable) must match CTD connector type. Wet-pluggable connectors provide easy connectability in damp (e.g., rolling, slippery deck) or cold environments (standard connectors may not seal well in extreme cold; we recommend connecting cables in warm ship’s lab rather than on deck for these conditions). Wet-pluggable connectors are not meant for literally plugging cables in submerged underwater; both our standard connectors & wet-pluggable connectors must be mated in air.

90473 Underwater Power & Data Interface Module, with wet-pluggable connectors, used with SBE 36/33 & CTD, 6800 m (does not include CTD interface cable or mounting hardware)

50219 Mounting block set for PDIM (bolt to cage) PDIM is either mounted to CTD main housing or to CTD cage, depending on number, size, & mounting requirements of auxiliary sensors included in system. Sea-Bird engineering determines appropriate mounting when written quote is requested. For preliminary cost estimate, assume more expensive mounting option (50219).
50154 Mounting hardware kit - PDIM or AFM (clamp on housing)
