SEASOFT V2: Deployment Endurance Calculator

The Deployment Endurance Calculator is an aid for quickly determining the maximum deployment length for a moored instrument. Inputs to the program include the instrument type, firmware revision, sample interval, use of a pump and/or auxiliary sensors (as applicable), and type of battery. The Calculator outputs the expected maximum deployment length in days, based on our conservative estimate of battery capacity. The Deployment Endurance Calculator was written for use on systems running Windows XP service pack 2 or later, Windows Vista, or Windows 7.

Note that the Calculator does not check the memory capacity; we expect to add that capability in the future. However, in most cases, the battery endurance governs the maximum deployment length (see the instrument manual to perform a quick check of the memory capacity).

The Calculator can be used with the following instruments:

• SBE 16 SeaCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder (older product)
• SBE 16plus and 16plus V2 SeaCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder -- RS-232 or RS-485 interface
• SBE 16plus-IM and 16plus-IM V2 SeaCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder -- Inductive Modem Interface
• SBE 19plus and 19plus V2 SeaCAT Profiler -- in moored mode
• SBE 37-SM and 37-SMP MicroCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder -- RS-232 interface only; RS-485 interface will be added at a later date
• SBE 37-IM and 37-IMP MicroCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder -- Inductive Modem interface
• SBE 37-SMP-IDO MicroCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder with Integrated Dissolved Oxygen -- RS-232 interface only; RS-485 interface will be added at a later date
• SBE 37-IMP-IDO MicroCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder with Integrated Dissolved Oxygen -- Inductive Modem interface
• SBE 37-SMP-ODO MicroCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder with Optical Dissolved Oxygen -- RS-232 interface only; RS-485 interface will be added at a later date
• SBE 37-IMP-ODO MicroCAT C-T (optional P) Recorder with Optical Dissolved Oxygen -- Inductive Modem interface
• SBE 39 Temperature (optional P) Recorder -- RS-232 interface (note: not currently compatible with SBE 39plus)
• SBE 39-IM Temperature (optional P) Recorder -- Inductive Modem Interface
• SBE 56 Temperature Logger

Our best effort has been made to provide a useful deployment planning tool that covers a wide range of instrument firmware revisions, while minimizing the risk of data loss due to overly optimistic battery capacity assumptions. Due to variations in components, instrumentation, production revisions, battery age or shelf life and general factors beyond our control, this Calculator is for use at the end user's own risk. Instrument battery life may vary in any given environment. Go to the FTP Site to download and try out the Calculator, DeploymentEnduranceCalc_v1_*.exe (* indicates the version number).

There is no manual for this program, but its use is covered in the Help menus.

The Seasoft V2 software suite also includes the following Windows programs:

• Seaterm  -- terminal program that interfaces with most instruments, providing setup, data retrieval, and diagnostic tests.
• SeatermAF  -- terminal program that interfaces with instruments that include Auto Fire capability for autonomous operation of an SBE 32 Carousel Water Sampler (with an SBE 17plus V2 or AFM) or SBE 55 ECO Water Sampler, providing setup, data retrieval, and diagnostic tests.
